A unique red wine from Alto Adige region , a wonderful wine with potential aging of 12-15 years.
Lagrein Reserva is a powerful red wine full of Alto Adige, Dolomites, characterized by a deep crimson color and intense aromas of dark berries, violets and spices. After aging for 20 months in French oak barrels, the wine displays a refined balance between richness and structure, with soft tannins and a long, elegant finish.
The 2023 vintage began with a warm spring, which led to the early start of flowering. The following summer was dry and hot. The drought did not cause problems, thanks to the winery’s smart irrigation systems and technology. The warm summer months resulted in exceptionally healthy grapes of very good quality and maturity. The acidity values were slightly low due to the vintage, but well balanced and supported by a lot of focused work in the summer months and a slightly earlier harvest. The first grapes were harvested at the end of August – as always by hand.
An advanced fermentation cellar allows the grapes to be processed with the utmost care, processing whole grapes using gravity feed technology. Removing high sensitivity and gentle transport of the grapes using a special container, the “Cubon”, which runs on rails, proves to be very gentle on the grapes and maintains their high quality. The state-of-the-art building is certainly unique in Alto Adige, and is probably one of the most modern fermentation cellars in Italy for the production of excellent red wines.
A little about Elena Walch
Elena Walch career began as an architect. After marrying a winemaker from a traditional and ancient winery in 1985, she decided to dedicate herself entirely to producing wines in South Tyrol according to her vision, moving beyond single harvests, cultivating more modern varieties, reducing the quantity of the harvest in favor of quality.
Many winemakers were skeptical of her vision, even the first woman in this region in a field that was entirely male and with revolutionary and innovative approaches in a traditional field Elena Wallach helped lead the quality revolution in South Tyrol, today her name is part of the elite of the Italian wine scene, the most prestigious and high-quality winery in Termein.
Currently managed by her daughters Julia and Karin
The winery regularly wins awards including one of the 100 best wines in the Italy by James Suckling, for beyond the clouds vintage 2020.
